Vancouver 2010 and USOC Unrest

Lindsey Vonn. Shaun White. Sasha Cohen. Alexander Ovechkin. So many stories going into the Vancouver 2010 Olympics which are only a month away. But Stateside, the USOC is still reeling from Chicago’s gut-punching 2016 Olympic loss to Rio de Janiero. So much to the point that there has been a flurry of activity since October 2nd. Among them, an independent probing of the USOC by former NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue & Chicago 2016 bid leader Patrick Ryan. Plus, they had to endure a summoning to Congress. Many Olympic leaders in the US called for Larry Probst’s immediate resignation. Now Scott Blackmun who once was the person in charge of USA Swimming takes over as the CEO of the USOC. They’re making progress, but these are baby steps. The real progress will be made when the USOC decides to get its financial ducks in a row with the International Olympic Committee which some claim as the main reason for Chicago’s debacle in Copenhagen. But that doesn’t mean the IOC has its issues too. They’re so caught up in European politics that European cities are already a step ahead of other areas even before they bid. So with 2020 in line for either Europe or Cape Town, South Africa if the 2010 FIFA World Cup is a success, 2024 could be the USA’s next real shot at bringing the games back to the US. I don’t own any of the logos/images that are here.
