The "Euro" tournaments are for European countries only. It is held every 4 years (like the world cup), but in 2004, 2008, 2012, etc.
The world cup involves teams from all over the globe and portugal have never one that. It is held in 2006, 2010, 2014, etc.
So no, the EURO 2004 was not the world cup, the only recent world cups were in 2002, 2006 and 2010 (yesterday!)
It was UEFA Euro 2004 (not FIFA). UEFA is the Union of European Football Associations, and the Euro Championships is their country-level tournament held every 4 years.
UEFA is a member of FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association), the worldwide body. FIFA holds the World Cup every 4 years, but it’s two years after a Euro.
As it clearly says… Fifa EURO… Europe… European Cup…
It’s held every 4 years, the last one being in 2008 and the next one will be in 2012.
